About the Course
I created this course after so many people asked how I approach my paintings, how I mix colors, build skin tones, and develop a portrait from start to finish. After years of experimenting, making mistakes, and figuring out what actually matters in oil painting, I wanted to create something that would save other artists that same time and frustration. Instead of overwhelming you with endless techniques or comparisons, this course focuses on the practical approach I use in my own work, the decisions, habits, and techniques that help a painting come together with clarity and confidence. Inside the lessons, you’ll see how a portrait develops through real demonstrations, while learning the core principles behind color mixing, brushwork, and building a painting in layers. In total, the course includes 19 hours of detailed video lessons.
Hi, I'm Frida Davidsson
I’m a Swedish artist based in Los Angeles, specializing in realistic oil portrait painting. Although I studied art formally, most of my growth came from years of independent practice and hands-on experimentation. I’ve worked across acrylic and oil, from smaller canvases to large custom commissions, constantly refining my approach to realism. Over time, I developed a way of working that made everything click, and that’s exactly what I want to share with you. I created this course to give you the clarity I didn’t have when I first started oil painting, so you can approach complex portraits with confidence and control.

FAQ
If your questions are not answered down below, feel free to email me at: [email protected]
Q: How long does the course take to complete? The whole course combined is 19 hours long. The portrait is divided into 22 sections, and I tell you how long each one typically takes. You can move through the course in a few days or spread it out over several weeks, it’s designed to fit your schedule.
Q: Is it beginner-friendly? Yes, beginners are welcome, and no prior oil painting experience is required. This is a challenging practice painting, so your result may look different from mine, and that’s completely normal. The goal is to learn the techniques and process, not create a perfect copy. You’ll still gain strong skills in color mixing, brush control, and portrait structure, whether you paint along fully, focus on sections, or watch first.
Q: Do I have to finish the entire portrait? No. You don’t have to complete the full portrait for the course to be valuable. You can paint small sections or watch first and apply the techniques to your own work. The focus is learning the method, not creating a perfect copy.
Q: Will this course only teach portrait painting? We’re painting a face because it’s one of the most technically demanding subjects. A portrait forces you to master color, light, edges, and structure at a high level. Once you understand this process, those same techniques transfer to any subject. The course is really about learning how to paint, the portrait is the training ground.
Q: What materials do I need? You’ll need a standard oil painting setup. In the course we work with 10 carefully selected oil colors, a small set of essential brushes, and basic supplies like canvas, palette, solvent, and medium. Inside the course you’ll find a clear materials list where I explain what you need and what each item is used for. If you’ve worked with oils before, you likely already own many of these supplies.
Q: Do I need a projector? No. I teach two methods for transferring the image: using a projector or using a grid. You can choose whichever works best for you.
Q: Is this a one-time purchase? Yes. You pay once and get long-term access to the entire course right away.
Q: Do you offer refunds? Because this is a digital course with immediate access to all lessons, refunds aren’t offered. Please review the course description and Q&A carefully to make sure it’s the right fit for you before enrolling.
Q: What format are the lessons in? The course consists of pre-recorded video lessons that you can watch anytime through your online account. You can pause, rewind, and revisit sections whenever you need. The lessons are streamed online rather than downloaded, so you can access them easily from your devices.
Q: Can I watch from my phone? Yes, however if you want to paint the portrait, you will need 2 devices, one where you watch the videos, and one where you have the reference image. I strongly suggest watching the videos on a laptop, and using either a phone or a tablet for the reference image
Q: Will I learn how to paint with other mediums as well? No, this is only for oil paint.
Q: What if I make mistakes while painting? Mistakes are part of learning. This is a practice project designed to help you understand technique and process. I also cover how to avoid and fix a few common mistakes before the painting begins.
If you are ready to stop guessing and start painting with intention, this is where you begin.
